Power Up Your SPIRIT
“Have this same attitude in yourselves which was in Christ Jesus [look to Him as your example in selfless humility],”
Philippians 2:5 AMP
Many of us think of humility as…
Being quiet and respectful
Bowing down when you greet others
Saying “yes sir” even when you mean to say no
But those don’t necessarily mean you are humble. They are just expressions of background, imitation, and personality types.
True humility is to think less of yourself and more of others.
This doesn’t mean you won’t think of yourself at all. It doesn’t mean depriving yourself of what you need.
A humble person doesn’t let his status or achievements get in the way of helping others. He can lay it all down just to help someone else up. He doesn’t have to give up his position to be humble, but he also does not feel entitled to it either.
I say all this because humility isn’t normal. We are brought up in a society that loves competition and putting others down, so we move up.
Some people may be humbler than others, but it is a learned virtue.
If we can be told to look to Jesus as an example, that means imitation is possible. When we decide to rely on the Spirit for that change we desire, we become more like Christ daily.

How can we become humble at work?
Being humble has its benefits and challenges. People may say you don’t value what you have because of the status you often put aside.
If you are proud of the decisions you make, nothing else matters. Here’s how to become humbler, even if you already are.
- Be grateful. When you count your blessings and notice the little things that make your life beautiful, you will realise that the position you covet so much is not the ultimate.
- Never forget. People say the past doesn’t matter, but it influences how you look at the future. When you remember how you also grew through the ranks to become who you are, your empathy for those just getting started will increase.
- Stay joyful. Joy is powerful because it influences the atmosphere around you. It’s difficult for negative energy to reside near or in a joyful person, and pride has negative energy when used wrongly.
- Remember your why. You’re on earth to glorify God through what He has given you, and so everything you have is received. When you know this, entitlement ceases to exist because you are driven by a much deeper sense of purpose.
The list is inexhaustive.
There are a million hacks to show that you are humble. But the goal isn’t to show. The goal is to work within and let humility express itself on the outside.
Grow Your SOUL
“The little wins and blessings that I am grateful for include…”
Blessing your food before you eat doesn’t mean you will enjoy the meal more. It just reminds you that there are people who can’t eat what’s in front of you.
Celebrate the blessings you regard as little because they are big for someone else. This is the first reminder to stay humble.
