“Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy.” Psalms 47:1 NIV
To live by sight is to only show gratitude for the physical things God has blessed you with. So, you thank Him for the car, house, family, etc.
To live by faith is to show gratitude for the things God has blessed you with, but you haven’t seen them yet. You thank Him for the completion of that mega project which is still ongoing, or you show gratitude for the blessing of family, even while still single.
In both ways, you worship God. But one is driven by a deeper understanding of how God works. The word says that God has given us all things already. Even though we can’t physically see them yet, by faith we know we have them.
We clap our hands and shout for joy, not only when He gives us what we ask for, but at all times when what we want isn’t in our hands yet. The instruction wasn’t conditional, but a commitment to just worship, nonetheless.
So even if you’re yet to see the benefits of all your hard labour all through the year, clap your hands and shout with joy!
How can we worship God by faith through our work?
Have you ever wondered why we show more gratitude when a project finally pays off financially than when we’re in the middle of it, putting out fires?
It’s because of the same reason: we easily appreciate what we can see. But how about we flip it?
Work can be challenging. It can be a major stressor that takes all gratitude out of your heart. But the ability to even express our gifts through the channel of work is a reason to be grateful.
As we work daily and say “Thank you Lord”, every step of the way, showing gratitude for results yet to come, we receive direction and wisdom to make those results come to pass. That’s working by faith.
“For me to always work by faith, worshipping God along the way, I must ______”
In what seasons have you complained the most to God? Where and when do you express doubt more? Finding these areas helps us know what we need to work on.
Perhaps the decision that needs to be made is to trust God more or shift our focus from the work to the source. Write down the mindset shifts you need to have so you see gratitude in every situation.
