Power Up Your SPIRIT
“[10] Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.” Isaiah 54:10 NIV
Growing up, my dad would always ask us to pray for the peace that passes all understanding. We used to recite it like a mantra but never understood its meaning until later in life.
Reflecting on the family I was born into, I realize that my dad lived out his advice. He wasn’t rich and faced potential public embarrassment sometimes, but he would always thank God for the peace he felt.
This brings to mind a painting of a calm bird protecting her chicks under her wings while the environment is stormy and scary.
This is what the anchor scripture is portraying. Despite the earthquakes and disasters we may experience, peace from above is the shield we need.
God is the mother hen and we are the chicks.
Hack Your BODY
How can we reflect this peace from God in the work we do?
I’ve always been involved in operations, and in my role as COO, I realized it’s a strategic position that can make or break the organization.
Being in such a role placed me in the middle of management and the rest of the team. As you probably know, it is possible for the fire and brimstone felt at the management level to trickle down and influence team members.
Part of my objective was to provide a dam, so the intensity isn’t felt at the lower levels. But earlier in my career, I didn’t know this. I didn’t know how to manage my emotions and was often times the one delivering the chaos to lower teams.
The moment I realized what was happening, several mistakes later, I changed my strategy. I had to become the mother hen that would nurture employees so they could deal with the crazy environment differently.
It’s a challenging spot to be in, but it’s also a good learning experience. And it helps me realize that as leaders, it’s wrong to negatively expose those we lead to potential harm, without giving them the right wisdom and covering.
We become like God by doing what He would do – see the moving mountains and hills, then nurture those we care for so they can be mature enough to deal with the harsh environment in due time.
Grow Your SOUL
“What kind of person must I become so I can provide a peaceful environment for those I lead?”
The art of becoming involves learning and action. Identify the knowledge you need to gain and the steps you need to take to become a peaceful shield that produces impact in the lives of others.
