SPIRIT
“If the Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from death, lives in you, then he who raised Christ from death will also give life to your mortal bodies by the presence of his Spirit in you.”
Romans 8:11 GNT
Each day, we eat dead foods, overwork our bodies, speak death-inducing words, and fast-track the mortal death we will eventually experience later in life.
The good news is while we know that as believers, our bodies will be renewed and we will reign with Christ at the end, we can also benefit from the life-giving Spirit here on earth. How?
- When you feel weak, say you are strong. This is not self-deception. You program your mind to believe that because you have the Holy Spirit, you have the strength to do whatever it is you need to be done at that time. What then happens is if the Holy Spirit instructs you to take a nap, you do it from the platform of strength and not weakness. This is how you replace death-inducing words with life-giving words.
- When you feel clueless, ask for knowledge. You may be given a task that’s beyond your expertise and suddenly, your entire self-confidence disappears. Just ask for the revelation of new knowledge and the Spirit of God in you will guide your research, bring something to your remembrance or just outrightly tell you the answer.
There are other ways to enjoy the benefits of life from the Spirit of God. Once we replace death with life in our thoughts, speech and actions, we will have good success.
BODY
How can the life-giving Spirit of God quicken us to do exploits at work?
It is tempting to say, “The Lord is my strength” every time we push our bodies to exhaustion and desire to still do more. It’s a quick fix for the average believer. But that shouldn’t be the case.
The life-giving Spirit of God ensures that everything gives life, and that includes how we think, speak and act. In other words, the Holy Spirit can tell you to rest when you’re tempted to use the quick fix phrase on your tired body. He can tell you to throw out your junk food or caution you when you make it a habit of sacrificing family time for work because He can see the death ahead.
In a card game, the Holy Spirit is not just the Joker card but the entire card deck. Sometimes, you must “pick 2”; other times, it’s “hold on”. Will you obey?
