While it’s good to not get stuck in analysis paralysis because you’re trying to discern your purpose in life, it’s also important to seek the right path when you feel the heaviness on you.
We have a brain to think, but half of the stress we put ourselves through is unnecessary. We try to figure out everything ourselves and while we may succeed, there are activities we have no business doing.
Sometimes, we think that the only time we need to know God’s will is when we’re trying to discover our life’s purpose. After that, the rest is up to our intellect. That’s not true.
I know that there are times when you look at life and ask yourself, “why am I even slaving away at this activity?” We are often driven to work because of the sake of work and not because we’re sure that’s where we ought to be.
Imagine a scenario where you are sure you’re pursuing the right mission and every task you do is aligned with that mission. You’ll feel more excitement and fulfilment, instead of drudgery and bitterness.
How do you know the right things to work hard at?
1. Everyone starts with experimentation. Do whatever your hands find to do. Many times, your path forms as you do this. The problem is that many people stop at this step instead of seeking to go deeper.
2. Receive your specialised instruction. As you work, never stop asking for the right path and always have your antennas up so that you pick any signals that come your way. Sometimes you may be moved to go on a personal retreat to clear your head, go on a fast so that your spirit is more alert or just slow down with work. Don’t ignore these signs because they are prerequisites to entering a state that gives you access to higher realms.
3. Shift your focus and say no to everything else. I know this is hard because most workaholics are YES people. When I discovered that some of the services I offered were no longer aligned with my mission, I said no to all future projects. It was a difficult phase, but I’m getting better at it. For you, this may mean switching career paths, changing jobs, or starting a new business.
Knowing what the Lord wants you to do in every season, every place or every situation is just as important. God is not only with you for the big events. He is interested in small events too. So, bring Him in.
