Power Up Your SPIRIT
Don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Romans 12:2 NLT
An apple can be in a basket full of bananas. It is in the same basket, but it is not of the same source as the bananas. They have different seeds.
That’s what it means to be in this world, but not of it.
But then, why does God still need to renew our minds?
Time is powerful, and that apple could begin to think it’s a banana over time. It’ll act like one and be treated as one.
But if its identity stays intact, it’ll never be convinced by anyone that it’s a banana. This is why mind renewal is important.
What happens if the identity stays intact?
The apple will understand that its purpose as an apple is different from that of a banana. It will come to understand God’s will for it as an apple.
You can be in an organisation full of crazy, wicked people and be the only sane one full of love. Once you conquer the effect that time can have on you, you become well-positioned to fulfil God’s will in that place.
Who were you when you started your current role?
Whom have you become?

How can we let God transform us at work?
It’s hard to not give in to the pressures that work brings. Sometimes this pressure causes us to act in ways contrary to our identity in Christ.
I can say something in anger or make a nasty comment and then later realise that those actions weren’t right.
The goal is to get to the point where our default response to situations is transformed. Where we move from first acting natural and then realising afterwards that we could have acted differently, to acting differently as the default.
This is called perfection and that’s what God wants to work in us.
But for that to happen, every time we act a certain way at work, we must be willing to always assess ourselves, identify where we are weak and ask God to help.
This is how we permit transformation.
The more intentional we are about this, the faster and greater the results.
Eventually, we should see ourselves:
- Pausing before making a reply
- Staying silent instead of speaking
- Picking our words when we speak, instead of speaking before thinking
- Restraining our emotions from violent expression until later when we’re calm
- Judging situations through a different lens
- and so on…
It’s a beautiful place to be. Do you want it?

“If I could describe the kind of person I want to be in 3 words, those words would be…”
(source: GrowthDay)
It’s time to get intentional. What 3 words jump at you when you try to answer this question? Do they align with who you want to be transformed into?
Write them down. Don’t fuss over it too much. You can always change them later.
