SPIRIT
“But I will sing of Your power; Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; For You have been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble.”
Psalms 59:16 NKJV
Everyone needs a safe place to run to in hard times, and for David, his safe place was God. David was already anointed as the next king, but his competition (Saul) was ready to put him out of business for good by killing him.
In response to this, here’s what David did that we could apply to our lives:
- He cried for help. It’s okay to feel clueless and just cry to God. I know how hard it is to admit that you don’t have a solution, after all, you are the person people run to when they need something fixed. But sometimes, be like David and just ask for help.
- Acknowledge God’s help. It is tempting to take the glory for all your abilities at work. But there are times you just have to say, “I don’t know how I did that, God helped me”. This is how to sing God’s praise, just like David did.
The next time you are in a fix, run to the fixer and thank Him for it in advance.
BODY
How can we create a safe space for others at work?
As Christians, we are to do to others as God has done to us. If God is our safe space as he was to David in his psalms, then we should provide that level of security to those we work with.
Can people come to you with their questions, concerns and lamentations, and feel heard? I wasn’t always patient with people and would be quick to give a solution. But marriage has taught me to allow my wife to talk and cry her heart out while I empathise. I only make my suggestions when she is ready. I become super hubby that way.
The same tactic is potent at work. Try it and thank me later.
SOUL
What habits will make you feel better today?
(source: GrowthDay)
Could it be active listening? Or perhaps giving someone else a compliment? Whatever it may be, today is a great day to do it.
If it makes you feel better today, try it tomorrow to feel the same rush of emotions on your inside.
