“So he said to his disciples, “The harvest is large, but there are few workers to gather it in.” Matthew 9:37 GNT
The word “few” means a small number. And this makes me wonder how we’re so few, given that there are so many Christians on earth. Or is it possible that the ratio of Christians to non-Christians is wide?
That’s not the case. The reason is that many of us keep our faith to ourselves. We believe in Jesus for our benefit and don’t see the need to tell others about Him.
We are casual with our spiritual lives, allowing our flesh to do as it pleases and remembering to pray only when there’s a problem.
We are afraid of being judged, mocked, or even segregated because of our faith. So, we keep quiet and blend in. We put on Christianity like a cap that can be removed when it is inconvenient.
We tell ourselves that people will see Jesus through our lifestyle, but we don’t even know how to live right because we can’t hear the Holy Spirit when he speaks.
Because I also got scared of talking about Jesus, I didn’t do anything about it. I avoided evangelism exercises like the plague. But then I got inspired to use a medium I was comfortable with—writing. Over time, that overflowed into being confident enough to verbally say it.
You can start from somewhere.
How can we develop confidence in sharing the good news with others through work?
Some people sing about the good news but feel less confident speaking. Some teach it but can’t write it. Some paint about it but can’t sing about it.
The point is God will start with you where you are if you’re willing. The benefit of sharing the good news is that the more you share, the more you believe.
And remember that it’s those who believe and practice what they believe that experience mountain-moving miracles.
It doesn’t matter whether you are two years in the Lord or ten years. We all start one day. You don’t have to jump into the deep end of the pool to become one of the workers that Jesus talked about in the anchor scripture.
Start by dipping a toe in. Then you’ll see how easy it is to dip your foot, your legs, and then your entire body, swimming and sharing with ease and confidence.

It’s one small step at a time. If you allow God to hold your hand on this, you’ll find your unique streak in no time. Identify how you want to express your message, and start in the smallest way possible.
