“No one is holy like the Lord, for there is none besides you, nor is there any rock like our God.” 1 Samuel 2:2.
This scripture reminds me of a scenario with my daughter and our landlord’s dog. Whenever we’re outside and she hears the dog bark, she runs to me because she believes I can protect her. Just as she finds refuge in me, we find refuge in God.
We are sure it will not collapse when we run into a rock. We go deep into the rock and feel safe. In the same way, we run to God for safety and security, trusting that nothing can harm us because we are in His presence. We don’t need to see God perform miracles to believe in His ability to protect us, because we trust Him. He is always faithful, and there is none like Him.
No matter what challenges come, we can run to God for refuge. Just as my daughter runs to me when she feels threatened, we can run to God and be assured of safety. She has never seen me fight the dog before but believes I can. We also don’t need to carry the burden of protection ourselves. Once we run into His refuge, we have nothing to fear.
How can we seek refuge in God when work gets tough?
We can call on God for comfort and support when we face challenging times. Whether it’s financial struggles, overwhelming responsibilities, or loss of job security, we can ask God to carry us through.
These situations are like the barking dog, constantly threatening us. Instead of being intimidated, we can seek refuge in God, who will give us the wisdom to overcome our challenges.
Seeking God’s refuge doesn’t mean we expect immediate solutions to our problems. Just as I don’t rush out to confront the dog when my daughter runs to me, we don’t demand instant resolutions from God.
Instead, we seek His wisdom, guidance, and direction. He may lead us in unexpected ways, offering solutions unrelated to our previous attempts. As we follow His guidance, our troubles may not instantly disappear, but His wisdom equips us to thrive despite the adversity.
“I seek refuge in God by default.”
Seeking His refuge grants us peace, comfort, and the wisdom to silence the negative voices around us. We don’t need to confront our problems head-on. God doesn’t confine himself to a particular method; His guidance may come in various forms, leading us to speak to someone, implement our long-held ideas, or reflect on our situation.
As we face our “barking dogs,” let us remember that God is our refuge. Instead of attempting to drown out the noise, let’s seek God’s presence. By running to Him, we find serenity, comfort, and the wisdom to navigate our challenges.
