“And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?” Matthew 6:30 NLT
Verses like this often lead to questions like, “If God cares so much for me, then why do bad things happen? Why is work so difficult if I have been called to do something great?”
There are also situational questions like, “If I’m supposed to be fruitful, then why did the doctor say I can’t have children? Why am I still struggling financially if God has given me wealth?”
Even wildflowers, as cared for as they are, also face adverse conditions. They may pray for sunlight and rain but experience extreme cold and heat. And they often never really end well because they grow in places they weren’t planted.
Trust in God doesn’t mean the absence of difficulty. It means we have the confidence to walk through difficulty unscathed.
Psalms 23:4 NLT says, “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.”
Having faith will not eliminate the dark valley. Many times, it is on the path to the destination. How else will we arrive at our final bus stop without passing through the dark valley? We have to walk through.
How can we trust God through difficult work seasons?
From not knowing what you want to do with your life to finally figuring it out but not knowing how to achieve your dreams, there seems always to be a roadblock ahead that gets us confused and makes us scream for help.
All we want to do in such periods is figure it out. Many negative thoughts plague our minds, which we find hard to resist. Sometimes, in seasons like this, I feel powerless and let my mind roam free to think about whatever it wants, which will be predominantly depressing thoughts.
But then I catch myself and am reminded that focussing on what seems not to be working makes me lose sight of the many things that are. By changing focus, those thoughts vanish. Staying in an atmosphere of worship restores my soul.
If the wildflower focuses on adverse conditions, it will lose sight of the fact that it is among a community of wildflowers. It will forget that it is still planted and will not acknowledge the beautiful scenery around it.
Trusting God means realising that everything works together for our good. What we think isn’t working is working in God’s big agenda. So, even if we need to make a decision that will change our reality, it’s all in God’s good plan.
“I know God cares for me.”
What do you feel isn’t working in your life right now? What do you think is working?
Show gratitude for what’s working. Talk to God about what you feel isn’t working. God might open your eyes to see how He’s working behind the scenes for your good.
