“Now therefore, let Pharaoh select a discerning and wise man, and set him over the land of Egypt.” Genesis 41:33 NKJV
I belong to a small bible study group where we do in-depth study of chapters of the bible for weeks before moving on to the next. At our last meeting, I shared something with them that you may also find valuable.
The book of Genesis 41 is a story of growth, but what Joseph did in verse 33 is what I refer to as “the edge”.
The land of Egypt was about to enter a new season and Pharoah’s dream was a sign that something big was coming. He knew this and was restless because he could not dismiss the dream.
Amid Pharoah’s magicians and servants, Joseph was just another dream interpreter. If all Joseph did was interpret the dream, he may have just been given gifts or pardoned from his time in prison. The onus would then be on Pharoah and his team of strategists to figure out how to save the nation.
But after the interpretation, Joseph did what no magician would have been able to do – give a strategy for the new season.
For every new season of your life and career, whether it’s a new job, a career change, or a promotion, you need clarity on two critical areas, otherwise, you will miss the season or miss the benefits of the season.
1. An Interpretation
When you feel a nudging, have a dream, or sense some form of distress about something new happening, it is important to ask, “What does this mean?” The Holy Spirit might reveal this to you directly or through someone you’ll be directed to seek counsel from.
Imagine if Pharoah never got his dream interpreted. The famine will hit Egypt by surprise.
2. A Strategy
When you are clear on what you have discerned, the next step is to create a strategy to help you leverage and benefit from the new season. Knowing that you are about to be a father is just information. Planning how you will combine fatherhood with work is strategy formulation.
Armed with the interpretation, you can begin to search the scriptures or ask coaches and mentors for counsel as you put a strategy together. Without a strategy, all the work you do may just be futile. That will not happen to you.
The right interpretation leads to the right strategy. And the right strategy makes the new season worth it. Are you about to enter a new season that you’re confused about? The Holy Spirit can help. Ask him.
