“When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” Matthew 16:13 NKJV
We all have big dreams. We want to be several things “when we grow up.” If we weren’t restricted by time, we would even attempt stuff we didn’t intend to become just because we could.
But time is a blessing, and it helps us streamline our efforts because we know we only have so much time. With this in mind, our dreams and goals in life must be placed within time constraints.
During a teaching session with my team, I asked them: What do you want to be when you grow up, and what’s stopping you?
I was surprised at the answers I got. I heard dreams that had nothing to do with their work at the agency. It’s not like I didn’t expect this; after all, I also have dreams beyond marketing.
Hearing them speak helped me realise that God wants to express His glory through us in diverse ways, and the experience of one season in our lives can’t box Him in.
Some wanted to own businesses in the hospitality industry, entertainment, utilities, and marketing. Many also wanted to be music ministers or Pastors.
But most were held back by fear in different flavours—fear of success, fear of failing, fear of being criticised, and fear of risks. Most dreams were also lacking clarity.
To fix clarity, focusing on ONE THING helps put dreams in perspective. Like the anchor scripture, I explained that although Jesus was several things to different people, He had ONE mission.
People only experienced his different expressions. They knew him by the part of his experiences. Having one mission provided a thread that passed through all possible expressions.
So it doesn’t matter if you want to run one or five businesses in different industries; ONE MISSION unifies them. This mission becomes your singular focus, guiding every life decision you make.
We become empowered to do this work but find expression in multiple ways because God has blessed us with gifts that must be used.
So, I ask you, “What do you want to be when you grow up, and what’s stopping you?” As you answer this, I pray you receive the clarity you need to overcome whatever might be stopping you and focus on the ONE THING God would have you do.
