What Are You Asking For?

I remember when I gained admission into the University for the first time. My name appeared on the list in the newspaper and a family friend brought a copy to our house.

I was thrilled!

The Institution required that we pay an acceptance fee of 100k within 7 days to confirm the admission. When my dad saw that, he simply said, “God will provide. If He wants you to go here, He’ll make a way”.

I trusted that statement, so I asked God to provide. But as 7 days turned to 2 days, then 1 day, with no sign of provision, I prepared my mind for the next 1 year.

I could’ve queried God and asked why He didn’t honour our request. But every time I look back at the extra year I had to spend, I’m reminded that there is always a bigger agenda. The skills I acquired in that extra year largely influenced my work today.

Sometimes, we pray with clenched fists and refuse to accept any result other than what we want. That’s a recipe for disaster.

Yes, Matthew 7:7 says, “Ask and it shall be given to you”. But James 4:3 also says, “You ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly”.

Are your passions aligned with His passions? Is your will aligned with His will? Your Heavenly Father will give you what you want. But trust the process because He will ensure that you’re both on the same page first.
