Job vs Entrepreneurship: which is better?
Initially, when our motivational speakers trampled on the JOB concept and exalted Entrepreneurship, it sounded cool.
After a while I started to see how messed up that comparison was.
JOB doesn’t stand for Just Over Broke. If you’ve ever defined it like that before, use your right hand to clean your mouth.
I have seen employees earn more than business owners. Asides finance, under this same sun, I have seen employees driven by a deep sense of purpose that the impact they make in the organisations they work for is far more than what many entrepreneurs will make in their lifetime.
In the same vein, I have seen employees with no sense of direction and entrepreneurs who are ready to take over the world.
What’s the difference?
Identity.
I once spoke at a teenagers conference (see post image) where I explained to them how talents, skills and passion are simply resources to help you get to a destination. Everyone is on a journey.
When you know who you are, what your driving force is, where you’re headed and an idea of how you want to get there, getting a job or starting a business will only be the vehicle.
As I wrote in my piece yesterday, you are to determine the kind of job to take or the business to start. So use this period to know yourself better.
If you had a traditional job where you had to report to a location physically, this compulsory two week curfew will be holiday for you. If it passes by without you asking yourself and God the right questions to determine whether or not you’re on the right path, don’t blame anyone else for feeling unfulfilled at work.
And if you’re part of those people who like to belittle job seekers and employees, don’t come after me please, I’m currently self-isolating.
