Success, whether it’s in business, career, family or spiritual, sometimes goes beyond what you know. Knowledge is good, but it can only take you so far.
Who you walk with influences just how fast you succeed. Who you know is not necessarily the same thing as who you walk with. I know some people will start screaming, “Yes, your network is important.”
It is possible to just know people and yet have no relationship with them. At that point, they’re of no use to you until you need them. That’s a parasitic relationship, with you as the parasite, and the “important person” as the host. Many of us do this, so I’m not pointing fingers at anyone.
You automatically start a relationship with anyone you walk with, regardless of how short the walk may be.
Walk, in this context, means being a part of each other’s journey. People who walk together have brief discussions, share value, take brief steps in the same direction for a period of time, and create an experience that goes on record.
If you know someone who you think can give a multiplying effect to the work you do, create an opportunity to “walk” with the person. It could be as little as intentionally having a small phone conversation so you just discuss a subject matter.
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego didn’t just become leaders in Babylon based on what they knew. Scripture didn’t record that God revealed the King’s dream to them (Daniel 2:19). Daniel, the one who was able to interpret the King’s dream with the help of God, made the request (Daniel 2:49).
That didn’t come from a parasitic relationship. They had walked together.
