He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Matthew 26:39 NKJV
How many times have you “fallen on your face” and slept off or wailed because you were trying to avoid that super challenging task? You know it’s something you’re supposed to do for the project to move forward, but for some reason, you can’t find the motivation to just do it. Take heart. You’re not alone.
Sometimes, to avoid a gruelling task, I’d insert break time and watch a movie, or take a nap and end up napping longer than usual, or check Instagram and intentionally waste precious time watching reels. This doesn’t solve anything, but it’s a way of escape. Unfortunately, the task doesn’t go away.
Some prefer to get the hard tasks out of the way immediately after they start working. Others just deal with them as they come. I don’t know your strategy, but one thing I’ve realised, which I’ve also heard successful people attest to, is to remind yourself of why you must do that task.
If the vision of what you’re doing is bigger than you, solves a problem you care about, and is aligned with the will of the One who sent you, you’ll eventually get that task done. Yes, you may procrastinate, but it’ll get done.
Even Jesus Christ had to plead for the hard crucifixion task ahead of him to be removed. At that moment, He would rather go heal a multitude than endure the pain ahead. But he had to submit to the plan and purpose of God for His life.
Many times, we forget why we do what we do, and that’s normal. But the reason we start with understanding why is that along the way, we can always remind ourselves of the reason whenever we forget. Once we can remember and feel the same way we felt about the vision at the beginning, we will be reignited to move forward.
So, wake up! Let’s get stuff done.
