“Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires; God will satisfy them fully!
Matthew 5:6 GNT
Jesus knows that not everyone will have the desire to do what God wants and be right standing. For many, it’s not their greatest desire.
So, he’s describing what we stand to gain if we make this our greatest desire.
For something to be the greatest, it means you desire it above everything else. To desire righteousness above everything else is to say, “It doesn’t matter what the world requires from me, if it doesn’t align with what God requires, I won’t do it”.
When you do this, you automatically deprive yourself of the eventual benefits of doing things the world’s way. Jesus knew this, and so he had to mention the rewards for choosing to separate yourself – you will be satisfied.
So, in the real sense, we are not deprived. We just get blessed in an unusual way, according to God’s standards.
And we will feel content and satisfied with whatever this blessing is.
That is where the hope is.

How does being righteous help us at work?
There are perks for being smart and manipulative. There are rewards for bringing others down and lying. Doing none of these things makes us look naive.
But the blessings attached to those negative actions are limited to what the world can offer. We have access to much more.
Do you remember WWJD (What Would Jesus Do)?
That’s the only filter you need to stay righteous at work.
When faced with a situation that will make us compromise our faith, passing it through the WWJD filter will help us make the right decision.
A good reputation, dependability, integrity, and trustworthiness are values that money cannot buy.
People have gained access to unthinkable opportunities and wealth because their parents possessed these qualities. They create legacies that become a well of blessings for generations to come.
Possess these, and your name will open doors for you and your children.
