Power Up Your SPIRIT
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7 NIV
Children always ask for what they want. As a parent, you sometimes give in just so they get off your back. They really don’t try to figure out how to get it on their own first. The first step is to run to Mum and Dad.
As we get older, we become more independent, asking less and figuring things out more. Unfortunately, this also affects our relationship with God.
Before we go to God, we reach a dead-end first, then make Him our last resort. We go to God telling him all the things we have tried, summon the courage to ask Him, and then try to figure out how He will pull it off. No wonder mortality rates keep increasing every year.
This is like putting the cart before the horse, and Jesus says there’s a better way. He uses the three scenarios in the anchor scripture to emphasize that His approach is better.
Jesus says, “If you can be little children again and try to not figure everything out on your own, but go to God in prayer, you’ll get what you want.”
We have a Father who cares for us and wants us to stop acting all grown up. So, let’s be little children again.
Hack Your BODY
How can we get anything we want from the work we do?
I like to use the anchor scripture as a process for reaching goals.
This process is called THE ASK METHOD.
A is for Ask
S is for Seek
K is for Knock
We all follow this process anytime we want to gain access to something that’s not originally within our grasp.
Let’s imagine your company just signed a big deal with a new partner and you visit your partner firm to finalize the details.
Upon arrival, you’ll ask, “Please I’m here to see the CMO. I have an appointment. How can I get to his office?”
That’s the Ask.
The receptionist replies by saying, “Walk down this hall and take your first right. His office is the third door on the left”.
Your answer has just been given to you.
Now you move to Seek by following her directions and taking steps until you find the door as described.
But you still haven’t achieved what you want. So, you Knock.
What happens next? The door gets opened unto you. Now you’ve gained access and you’re one step closer to achieving your goal.
The same method applies to building a new relationship – intimate or professional. Your quest won’t stop at, “What does he like to eat?” You must get the meal.
It applies to ensuring your pitch is accepted for a project. Asking about how pitches are rated and the key decision makers is only the first step. You’ll still need to ensure you craft the right pitch and knock on doors so you can befriend the right people.
Use the Ask Method to get what you want. Be childlike enough to ask seemingly stupid questions and humbly follow the advice you seek.
Grow Your SOUL
“The goals I would love to achieve by the end of the next 3 years include…”
Now is a suitable time to write down those goals and decide how you want to use the Ask Method to achieve them.
If 3 years seems long, shorten the time to what you want. But take note of those goals.
