“Who, being in the form of God did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation… He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” Philippians 2:6-8 NKJV
Power intoxicates. It’s like an elixir that makes you feel you can live forever.
It’s like a drug that gives you muscles to flex any way and any time. You can punch, bully or beat up anyone and still get away with it. It makes you feel larger than life.
But it is also like kryptonite that can destroy even the strongest of men. Just ask Superman and he’ll tell you.
Sometimes we think we only have power when we occupy specific public offices or have an entourage of bodyguards and security detail. But that’s not the case.
The moment you have been empowered in some way, you acquire a level of power.
When you learn a new skill, you become more powerful.
When you get a new client who pays you, that extra income makes you more powerful.
When you get promoted at work with access to more privileges, you become more powerful.
When you move to a new stage in life, like becoming a husband, wife or parent, you become more powerful.
When you win an award for an accomplishment, you wield more power.
When you become an entrepreneur and build a team, you have more power.
When you acquire a new spiritual gift, you obtain more power.
The reason why these scenarios make you more powerful is that there are people who are currently where you used to be. Your elevated status now gives you access to privileges which you can use for good or bad.
Christ had ultimate power and could wield it at will, but He decided to let His assignment influence how he used the power and not the other way around.
It doesn’t matter what level you are at right now, you have power in some way. How are you using that power?
We’re very quick to judge others in the limelight who wield their power negatively, but we are not judged because we’re not all over social media.
Don’t wait till you’re an online sensation before you call yourself to order. Are you using your power responsibly now? Will it influence how you accomplish your assignment or will you humble yourself?
Use your power responsibly.
