“We love each other because he loved us first.” 1 John 4:19 NLT
Everything we do is a show of gratitude to God. We give Him glory because He has done so much for us. When we live this way, we activate abundance in our lives.
Why? Because it’s the person who says, “Thank You” that receives more. Let’s see some examples:
- When we give to others because we believe we are blessed, we acknowledge God’s blessings no matter our earning power. But when we give to others expecting something in return, it’s from a place of lack because we believe we are not blessed until we are repaid.
- When we serve others because we believe we have many deposits from God, we do it with a heart of gratitude and a sense of responsibility. When we serve others with the intent of being recognised, we place our rewards in the limited hands of humans.
- When we show love to others because we believe God has loved us so much, we are grateful for every opportunity to love. When we show love to others because we are told to do it, we react when the love isn’t returned.
How can we show love through work?
When we transform the gifts received from God into solutions that bless others and are deliberate about remembering the source of those gifts, we serve people with gratitude. Every opportunity to solve a problem expresses God’s provision in our lives.
When we take from the reservoir of love in our hearts and show it to someone difficult to work with, we do it regardless of their response. But something starts to change in them.
When we understand that Jesus came to us in human form and feels our struggles, we will be more down to earth and seek to understand the struggles of those we lead. We won’t just seek to understand them because we want something from them.
In the world, we do things for what we can get. In the kingdom, we do things because we have received. The actions will look the same, but the intent is different. While man will judge based on worldly principles (the actions), God judges based on kingdom principles (the intent) (1 Samuel 16:7).
“I give because I have.”
We give out of our time, money, knowledge, hearts, and so much more each day. It’s in our best interest to believe in the abundance we have; otherwise, we’ll feel used.
Why do you give? Is it from gratitude or with expectations? It may seem difficult, but it’s possible to make the switch with the help of the Holy Spirit. It’ll take a lifetime, but it’s a worthwhile journey.
