“How I wish I had more than 24 hours in the day.”
I know I’m not the first person to make that statement. And I won’t be the last either. It can get so frustrating when we want to accomplish so much in one day, yet there’s so little time to do it all.
But is there really so little time? Or are you the one trying to defy the time calibration that has already been put in place since the beginning?
Time already has a standard length, and has been divided into seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks and so on.
This is the same thing with distance. To cover 500km in a particular amount of time, your car has to move at a specific speed and in a specific direction consistently.
Anything slower than that specific speed and you won’t cover 500km in the required time. It’ll take you longer.
That doesn’t mean 500km wasn’t calibrated well. 500km is 500km. Nothing can change that.
This is the same thing with our goals. Every goal you want to achieve requires a specific speed in a particular direction in order to be achieved in a specific timeframe.
Unfortunately, we “calibrate” our goals or tasks wrongly and put all the blame on time.
If you still get pissed at the amount of time you have, then you’re in one of the following categories:
1. You’re moving at the wrong speed, in the right direction, to accomplish the right volume of tasks.
Solution: Check your speed. You probably need to automate more, or leverage others so more is done at the same time.
2. You’re moving at the right speed, in the wrong direction, to accomplish the right volume of tasks.
Solution: Go and pray for direction before you end up wasting your time. Restrategize.
3. You’re moving at the right speed, in the right direction, to accomplish the wrong volume of tasks.
Solution: Take it easy in yourself. Reduce the volume and celebrate yourself when you accomplish it.
There could be more iterations to this, but these are the basic scenarios.
So the next time you complain about 24 hours being too small, remember that time is not at fault.
