“In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.” Matthew 6:9 NKJV
How do you gain access to someone who has what you need? You acknowledge the presence of that person, even before you state your need.
In any relationship, those who always seem to get what they want understand reverence. This is why it often looks like in a marriage, the scales are tilted in favour of wives who know how to reverence their husbands. Men, on the other hand, are often too proud to appear needy.
Even in a business relationship, those who acknowledge before asking may sometimes never need to ask before that need is met.
It is self-deception to think the world owes you something, and once you open your mouth to ask, you get it. You must always “soften the ground” that you’re about to walk on.
Unfortunately, the devil has twisted this concept, making us believe that to get what we want from God, we have to bribe Him. So, with the wrong intent, we look for something to give and then go to God, demanding a return on investment.
Instead, let God know that you understand who He is and believe in His power to provide whatever it is you may ask for. When you do this for an average man or woman, the next thing you hear is, “So, what do you want?”
How can we use reverence to gain access at work?
Anyone can smell hype from afar and know you have an ulterior motive. Reverence is not hyping someone to feel larger than he or she is.
To reverence is to honour an identity. You show honour through giving gifts, service, loyalty, or any other form of giving that requires you to sacrifice something, even if it’s ego.
The world is built on sacrifice, and we always recognize true sacrifice when we see it. Even the most ungrateful people know about sacrifice but may not acknowledge it.
You may have been uniquely empowered to do what you do, but some people hold the key to your next level. They are not principalities, but just relationships you need to build.
The first step is to figure out what honour means to them and how you can express that honour in your capacity.
It could be affirming their actions, sponsoring their team for lunch, or giving them a product or service they would have otherwise paid for.
“Today, I choose to start honouring these people in my life…”
Start with the people closest to you. Sometimes those we despise are the bridges we need to get to the other side. Make a shortlist and figure out what you must give to each person on that list.
