“Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? There it is! I’m making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands.” Isaiah 43:18-19 MSG
For a long time, I would look back at my career and wish I hadn’t made the mistakes I made. I would regret some actions and wonder why I didn’t have the right guidance so I could move towards success faster.
I had regrets, and I sulked.
But now, I know better. God wants to be praised, regardless of the situation. If we reserve our praise for only good situations, then we become God-users and not worshippers.
I started thanking God for even the life events that caused me pain. I became grateful for the lessons, the setbacks, and the delays. And you know what happened?
It felt good…so good.
Living in the past doesn’t make anything better. Always looking back takes our eyes away from the future. When all you see is the past, you’ll never be present enough to look ahead.
This is why God is calling us into something brand new. So, thank God for the past, but look ahead. Do you now see the future?
How can we ensure that our previous work errors don’t get the best of us?
I’ve started and failed at projects that I invested time and money in. I’ve missed out on good relationships that I should have handled differently. Can all these affect current results?
Sure, they can.
Should we dwell on the fact that these past errors have caused certain unfavorable consequences in the present?
No!
Instead, we thank God for seeing us through it. It’s only when we do this that we start to see the lessons in those life events.
God is a master at making everything work together for our good. The only condition for this to happen is that we love him, regardless of the situation.
Our past errors and mistakes that may have affected our work output will become stepping stones to the greatness we’re entering into. Praise God for them.
“To see the good work God is doing in my life, I must begin thanking Him for these ten negative experiences from my past.”
The trick to showing gratitude for setbacks is to start doing it even when you don’t feel grateful. Just start saying it and stay consistent.
Like a fog lifting off the ground, your eyes will be opened, and you’ll feel grateful. So, list out ten past experiences you regret and thank God for them, one by one.
