“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 NKJV
If all God wanted to do was tell us that He was God, the whole Bible would only have this one verse. It’s the most important verse because it establishes God’s reign as supreme.
But it also has a fascinating meaning. From verse 2, we see how God created the heavens and the earth. We see the details and the creativity behind it all. This means verse 1 is not only a summary of the entire Bible, but it also establishes God’s intent.
In other words, before creation was done, God had already created. How?
You don’t start an intentional journey unless you know where you are going. God started His journey with the intent to create and establish the end goal of that intent from the first verse.
If we do not see the end goal of what we intend to do, we may never get to the end. So, the question is…
How can we see the end goal of the work we do to guarantee success?
The answer is to define your story.
Imagine you have a project at hand, and it looks mighty. Take a pen and paper (or a digital note-taking app) and write the following:
In the beginning, I [insert end goal].
For example…
In the beginning, I created the biggest art gallery in Mexico.
In the beginning, I fed one million families.
In the beginning, I built a multi-million dollar consulting firm.
What you write in the gap reflects what you see. You need to see the end goal of what you’re striving for to define what that end looks like.
You first create in your mind what you eventually see with your eyes. God’s intent had already created the heavens and the earth internally before it was expressed physically. Verse 1 was simply an acknowledgement of what had been done.
Like in the book of Genesis, once verse 1 is established, your second verse reflects how you achieved it physically.
“From today, I redefine what I saw in the beginning.”
From where you stand, lift your eyes and see where God is taking you. Pray that the eyes of your understanding be open so that God’s light enters your heart (knowledge) and you know what the future holds.
After doing this, look at different areas of your life and write down what has already been done from the beginning using the Genesis formula.
