Power Up Your SPIRIT
“Blessed [inwardly peaceful, spiritually secure, worthy of respect] are the gentle [the kind-hearted, the sweet-spirited, the self-controlled], for they will inherit the earth.
Matthew 5:5 AMP
The world says that to be successful, you must be ruthless…
- Be ruthless in business
- Be ruthless when climbing the ladder
- Be ruthless in getting what you want
The Kingdom of God says otherwise. It says if you want to have everything that life has to offer, including what cannot be bought with money, be meek.
That’s an upside-down approach.
God knows the laws upon which life was created. Man seeks to discover those laws and apply them.
If God’s approach is often different, then He knows something we don’t. Perhaps, there are a gazillion laws we’re yet to discover.
Being gentle requires a lot of contentment and love. And it’s not enough to just be gentle towards others. We also must do the same for ourselves.
In this battle between good and evil, evil may seem to win many battles, but good always wins the war because good has already won.
Hack Your BODY
How does being gentle help us in our work?
We are tempted to overly exert our influence and power on others and subject them to our will.
But sometimes, putting that aside and being kind goes a long way.
To use gentleness to your advantage at work, use the DOVE formula:
D – Decide: Know what your goal is. Do you want to propose a new product? Do you want to introduce something different in the organisation? Do you want to change a colleague’s behaviour? Be specific.
O – Observe: Pinpoint the key decision maker. Is this person your partner, supervisor, CEO, or team member? What does this person like/dislike?
V – Value: Once you have your data after observation, serve them by giving them something they value. Does your business partner like to be kept in the loop? Then share updates, even if you don’t enjoy it.
E – Engage: You will know when the time is right to engage in a conversation with the decision-maker about your goal. There’s no limit to how long you will give value. But the opportunity to engage will eventually present itself.
I’ve implemented this hack so many times. It’s why I’ve been able to work directly with difficult leaders that others repel.
It’s a long game, but always worth it because you will grow in the process.
Be gentle to someone today.
Grow Your SOUL
“3 things I learned about others are…”
(source: GrowthDay)
Pick three people in your life and write one thing you learned about each of them. This will reveal how well you’ve observed them.
Have you been demanding something from them to no avail? It’s time to change your approach. Use the formula above and let me know how it goes.
