“You’re blessed when you stay on course, walking steadily on the road revealed by God.” Psalms 119:1-8 MSG
As kids taking a walk in the evening with our dad in front, we would try to track his big footsteps by stepping into the footprints he would leave on the path as he walked.We knew those footprints helped us stay on track, with no deviations. If we decided on our own to take a turn, hitting a stone or entering a ditch was expected.When you follow someone who knows the way, you reduce your risk of making wrong turns or ending up in dangerous dark alleys.Staying on the course has its blessings of safety, time productivity, focus and so much more. These intangible blessings eventually lead to the physical manifestations that we are after, like material wealth and influence.As our creator, God knows the way. He has walked it and desires that we stay on the path He has marked out for us. It’s a steady path that leads to an expected destination. It doesn’t mean you won’t find yourself in dark places, but He’ll also be there, leading.So, let’s be little children again, trailing and excitedly jumping into the footprints left by our Heavenly Father.
How can we stay on the path that guarantees fulfilment in our work?
It took me almost a decade to realize that I never actively prayed for God to send me a mentor.I was comfortable saying I had the Holy Spirit and so, needed no one else. But as I gained knowledge, I realized that we interpret instructions from God based on our limited understanding.The way you would interpret an instruction now is different from how you would do it ten years ago. Why? Because your mind has been expanded by experiences and knowledge.Seeking mentorship in an area isn’t a deviation from total trust in God. Instead, it’s a channel that can help finetune what we desire to do, leveraging the expanded mind of the mentor.As I sought out one-on-one coaching, mentorship, and community support, ideas and directions that I struggled to implement for years were finetuned and validated in shorter amounts of time, weeks in fact.But our intent must remain true. We don’t seek mentorship because we want to be like the mentor. Instead, we want to fulfil our assignment and seek a guide to hold our hand in that direction.

Distractions and inadequate knowledge can be obstacles to doing the work we’ve been called to do.There are always mountains we must subdue before we obtain what God has for us. What are your mountains?
