“…Let’s just go ahead and be what we were made to be, without enviously or pridefully comparing ourselves with each other, or trying to be something we aren’t…” Romans 12:6 MSG
Sometimes, taking up new responsibilities shouldn’t be because you like to work or your inability to say NO. Trying that new task can also be driven by the curiosity of whether or not you can pull it off.
I love new challenges and many times, it’s misinterpreted to mean I don’t like to rest. I rest a lot, but I’m also curious to know what else I’m made of.
I believe we’re all made up of more parts than we can explore in one lifetime. So settling just because you have found one or two gifts doesn’t do justice to all the deposits inside you.
That breakthrough you’re looking for is probably hidden in a gift you’re yet to explore. But you won’t get there until you continue to chisel away at your shell.
Chiselling itself is no easy task. Asides from seeing parts of you fall off (parts you probably thought were necessary), the act of chiselling can be painful. Then the fact that you’re “inflicting this new hardship” on yourself can make you and others around you wonder whether or not you’re in your right senses.
But satisfaction comes when you start to see something new forming on the inside. A fresh layer of YOU starts to emerge and only at that point do you see the benefits of all the chiselling.
That’s what curiosity does.
It makes you dig below the surface to find the treasure beneath.
It helps you stay fascinated with the process until you hit gold.
Sometimes you’ll want to give up because of the voices in your head, but taking in the right information will awaken that curiosity again.
There’s so much you’re yet to discover. Some gifts take years before they really become tangible and valuable to others. But it’s your curiosity that fuels that transformation.
What transformation story do you want to tell about yourself? Figure that out, and it’ll help you get started.
Stay curious.
