“I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.”
Psalms 34:4–5 NLT
Many things make us afraid. For example:
- Becoming a father had its fears because I wasn’t sure I could provide.
- Going through a career transition made me afraid of having no value to offer.
- Starting this newsletter made me fear the possibility of giving up.
But have I been freed from these fears?
How? Did they go away?
No, they’re still there. But here’s what prayer does:
- God answers you by giving you direction, and wisdom, or helping you remember something that will propel you forward.
- Joy fills your heart because you can see the hope and know that God will help you.
Usually, prayer isn’t our first strategy because we feel we know. But God can empower that knowledge you have with the right solution.
He won’t overcome the fear for you. He’ll simply create an opportunity that will enable you to deal with that fear.
Today is a good day to say that prayer.
How can prayer aid us in conquering fear as we work?
I’ll give you some examples. After praying,
- I dealt with the first fear by getting directions on how to increase my income. It wasn’t by starting a new business, but by looking into my business and optimising parts of it.
- I dealt with the second fear by being directed to a virtual community that challenged me to grow and hit my goals.
- I dealt with the third fear by creating systems. This newsletter article you’re reading now wasn’t written today.
Sometimes we receive wisdom. Other times, He directs people or resources to us. You can’t determine how the fear will go away.
But be like a child—present it to him first. Then let your body be ready to receive it. Be sensitive to recognise when the answer is in front of you.
You will succeed.
“I choose to be free from all my fears henceforth by trusting and allowing God to give me the best strategy through prayers.”
Sometimes the best way to overcome new fears is to recount past fears and how you dealt with them.
You may not be able to use the same strategies, but it lets you know that if you did it before, you can do it again!
