Power Up Your SPIRIT
“But when we live in a right way, it is like living in the light. God is always in the light. So, if we live in the light, we share together in the life which God gives…”
1 John 1:7 EASY
I live in an economy where power outages are the norm. Whenever the power goes off at night, leaving everywhere pitch black, I’ll hear my daughter say, “My eyes”.
She says that to mean she can’t see, and wonders whether the problem is with her eyes.
When that happens, we tell her to stay where she is. If she tries to stand and try to walk, she’ll bump into many things, fall on the floor, and cry until her parents come to her rescue.
When you walk in darkness, you are more liable to make the wrong decision. Your eyes seem blind, your environment becomes pitch black and every turn you make can be a potential disaster.
This is why it looks like some colleagues always keep doing the wrong things and getting into trouble at work – they just can’t see what’s in front of them.
To walk in the light is to determine to live the right way. In doing this, we encounter God because that is where He resides.
To switch from darkness to light, we only need to do one thing: turn on the lights through God’s word.
We’ll make better decisions, surround ourselves with the right people, and do exploits at work.

How does living in the light benefit us at work?
Check every problem under the sun and you’ll realise that they can only be solved with the acquisition of new knowledge.
Knowledge is light and living in that light means you always know what to do.
Once we learn to walk with this consciousness, the following can happen:
- We form or become part of a closed community of colleagues also in the light.
- We become the light for those who don’t understand how we always do good work.
- We become “lucky” at work, getting access to new projects and opportunities because we always have new knowledge on how best to execute them.
- We become targets for those living in darkness. We may get hit, but with the same faith, we win.
- We gain the trust of those above who want to look good and need our knowledge to do so.
- We stay humble because pride is part of darkness and God resists it.
Desire to always have light.

The first time I answered this question this year, I gave a different answer. That’s the power of knowledge – as you start learning about something, your mind opens to new areas. These new areas become the next quest.
What light (knowledge) would you like to have today?
