“Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” II Timothy 1:6 NKJV
To rekindle is “to begin to burn again”. This means you have burned before. It’s not your first time. You’ve had a taste of what it means to live up to your full potential, to be passionate, fulfilled, happy, talented, and to feel like you’re on your way to success.
Unfortunately, something has probably put that fire out. Perhaps it’s the loss of a loved one, a job, increased responsibilities, the voices of naysayers or just a feeling that you don’t deserve what you’re striving for.
If this is the boat you’re in, you’re not alone. It’s normal to feel this way. No one said life is going to be a perfectly straight line. It’s more like the scribble of a 1-year-old.
Many times, we have a taste of what the future will be like, and it fills us with so much joy. But when what we call reality strikes, the negativity we choose to see causes parts of us to diminish until we become different.
You may not be in this position, but you may know someone who is. Good for you, that means you’re there to help someone else rekindle their fire. Even Timothy had to be reminded to stir up his gifts because Paul, who was more experienced in Ministry, knew the frustrations and challenges that his mentee would face.
Fire is meant to burn, not dwindle. When it burns, the darkness (confusion) gets engulfed by light (clarity) and everyone knows that fire is burning somewhere. It can’t be ignored, hidden, or told not to burn.
When you burn brightly, each day becomes a new opportunity to become who you’re meant to be. You become more enthusiastic about life, passionate about your work, in tune with your purpose for that season and grateful for where you are, even when you’re not yet where you want to be. Most of all, those around you are inspired by your approach to life and your influence spreads to those who meet you. Nothing beats that.
This post is an encouragement to me, you, and those you care about. If your fire needs to be rekindled, justĀ remember your first love, and ask for God’s help. And if you’re already on fire, lend a hand to someone who needs to burn again.
