“He breaks off every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and he prunes every branch that does bear fruit, so that it will be clean and bear more fruit.” John 15:2 GNT
Is it possible to live a 100% productive life? It is, not by assessing the unproductive activities you’ve engaged in daily, but through the value you’ve been able to create. If we must look at each day and use that as a yardstick, perhaps no one will be worthy.
Nonetheless, it’s the little activities that yield massive results. If daily tasks lead to more value, then the likelihood of having a productive life will be high. Therefore, it’s so important to understand the purpose behind every season of your life, so you know what you’re working towards.
A productive life is only possible through elimination and optimization. I didn’t invent this but found it in the focus scripture, as well as a gazillion books you’ve already read. But like all knowledge, we all need reminders.
A branch is an activity or process, while fruit equals a result. Christ says activities that don’t yield results are continuously eliminated while those that do are optimized so they yield more.
Many times, we get attached to activities that don’t add value, while we ignore activities that we should be doing but don’t want to because of the level of difficulty, bad mental programming, etc. You often know activities you like but are a total waste of time. It’s always in your best interest to eliminate such.
You define what value means to you. For example, if watching a movie helps you relax after a hectic day at work or serves as a form of reward for work done, then, keep it. But if it’s an addiction done during times that should be spent on other activities, then it’s something to investigate.
The question is, in the end, do you want to be a big tree without fruit, or one with lots of fruit? Sometimes, big trees provide shade from the sun, but if that’s not the reason you were planted, then it’s the wrong purpose.
