“…It was God who sent me here ahead of you to preserve your lives.” Genesis 45:5 NLT
We start and run through our careers with several tests and setbacks along the way.
- You get your first job only to have a boss that hates you.
- You start your first business and in a short time, you’ve cycled through 5 failed businesses with little to no results.
- You get a new job but never get paid your salary for several months.
- You take new courses to increase your value, but the opportunity to exchange that value for money doesn’t present itself.
- You get married only to lose your job a month after because of Covid.
- Your strong family values cause you to struggle to keep up with work demands and you’re almost on the brink of being jobless.
- You lose a loved one while trying to move to the next level of your career and the loss sets you back by several years.
- You relocate to a new country in search of greener pastures, but what you end up doing to make ends meet isn’t something you can boast of, even with family.
These are the realities of the people around us. We don’t know what shape or size the tests and obstacles will appear. We also can’t predict how we will react when they come.
Even when it looks like all is going down, have Jesus in your boat. The career fulfilment you search for may look so far off, but we need to trust God to take us through the process every day.
Eventually, a defining moment will present itself and that’s when the light bulbs in our heads will come on. We’ll realise God’s plan all along and laugh at what we had to go through.
In a matter of time, like Joseph, we too will smile and stand in front of those we have been sent to and confidently say, “God sent me here ahead of you”.
