“For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” Romans 10:10 NIV
Does God need you to prove to Him that you are His child before you’re acknowledged as one?
A parent who gives birth to a child needs no further proof that the child is theirs. They only need to acknowledge it in their hearts and say it with their mouths.
If parenthood is the same on earth as it is in heaven, then why do we as believers often use works to prove that we are children of God?
We try to perform, push ourselves to the limit and when we fall below our self-imposed expectations, we feel fatherless.
I’ve had many negative voices in my head, one of which was, “You’ll never be good enough.” This drove me from depression to exhaustion until I realized that all I needed was to believe and confess.
If you ever get to the point where you must ask yourself if you’re a child of God, just believe and confess all over again. Then you’ll mentally and spiritually place yourself in the right mood for a conversation with your heavenly father on the reason you doubted.
How can we ensure we stay confident about our identity while we work?
Some people find happiness in seeing others down. If that’s a manager, rest assured that some team members will always question their identity.
Our society is wired such that we must perform to get results. The problem arises when our self-worth is tied to performance.
When you do well, you’re a good person.
When you perform poorly, you’re a bad person.
This is how most adults were raised. And now we’ve carried it into adulthood, grooming our children and other adults the same way.
If you’re unable to perform well at a particular time, it just means you need some downtime, but it doesn’t mean you’re bad.
If you consistently perform poorly, it also means you have unhealthy habits and doesn’t remove the fact that you’re a child of God empowered to do more.
Who do you believe you are? Once you genuinely answer that question, you can tweak your beliefs and confess the truth.
The truth is everything God says you are.
“To become all God wants me to be, I need to change these negative beliefs about my identity…”
We subconsciously build negative beliefs about ourselves as we grow. Without reflection, these beliefs continue to influence our actions and create flawed realities.
Let’s put an end to that, shall we?
