“Why are you cast down, oh my soul? And why are you disquieted within me, hope in God? For I shall yet praise him, the health of my countenance and my God.” Psalms 42:11 KJV
Have you ever considered why some people bounce back from negative feelings quicker than others? It’s because they do something different.
Sometimes, we find ourselves in situations where everything seems to fall apart. We can feel overwhelmed, anxious, or discouraged. But we must remember that it’s okay to acknowledge these feelings.
The author of the anchor scripture was lamenting, expressing their emotions openly. Similarly, we can talk to ourselves, recognise our feelings, and understand why we feel a certain way.
Negative thoughts can be loud and overpowering. They can cloud our minds and prevent us from moving forward if we don’t address them. I’ve been there, just sitting in self-pity, wondering why things aren’t going my way. But through self-reflection and prayer, we can shift our focus. Instead of dwelling on negativity, we can turn to God, express our desires, and have hope for a better tomorrow.
How can we make the switch and overcome negative outcomes at work?
I have had several experiences of needing to be more fulfilled in what I was doing. I’ve been burned out, overwhelmed, stagnant, and dissatisfied with where I was. But now I know better. Dissatisfaction comes when you’re not grateful for where you are and are not hopeful about where you can get to.
When things don’t go as planned, when we face setbacks and disappointments, negative voices creep in, telling us we’re not good enough. But choosing gratitude for our current season is a powerful mindset shift.
Seasons in life are temporary, and while we may be going through a rough patch now, it won’t last forever. We can find peace amidst chaos by praying to God and trusting in His faithfulness. God can be the source of our strength, helping us navigate challenges with grace and resilience.
By going to Him, He can help us look different, unlike what we are going through. So, we don’t have to go out looking all gloomy because some things are not working as they should. We can remain joyful. It can be difficult and requires intentionality. But this is how we overcome the loud, negative voices in our heads.
“I choose to be grateful for my current season.”
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, burdened, or discouraged today, remember you don’t have to face it alone. Self-reflect, express your feelings, and take them to God in prayer. Trust that He can turn things around and bring light into that darkness.
Choose hope over despair, gratitude over complaining, and trust over doubt. Remember that seasons pass, and God can be the health of your countenance. May you find strength and peace in God’s presence.
