If you bought a beautiful cup from the mall and, on getting home, the cup jumped out of your bag and demanded that it be a flowerpot, has it served its purpose? No. Is this new function pleasing to you? No.
Worshipping God goes beyond knowing the right songs to sing when you’re in a prayer mood. Instead, it involves living a life of worship that pleases God.
God created man for his pleasure. He made us understand in Genesis 1 that He was creative. And in the same chapter, he expressed that creativity by creating the world, and then man.
But only man was created in the image and likeness of God. We were created to act like God and express our Godlike nature to all creation, just like God would do it.
Doing good is an expectation of this Godlike nature because, throughout Genesis 1, all the work done was labelled good. So, when we do good to ourselves and others, our work fits into the natural course of creation and gets a pass.
How can we do good and please God through work?
When God called His work “good,” what parameters did He use? He graded His work based on the creative imagination He had in mind. So, when what was created matched the vision, it met expectations and was good.
Due to the fall of man, we now have a mixed-up definition of what good and evil mean. And because of this, we still mix them up, grading what is good based on how we feel about it.
But doing good to others is not based on a feeling because it is possible to do evil and feel good about it. Instead, it is based on what God’s vision is. So, ask yourself, “What does God have in mind for the work I’m doing now?”
When we let the Holy Spirit assess and change the imaginations or thoughts of our hearts, what we do on the outside will match those divinely inspired thoughts. When our work begins to match those thoughts from above, we are sure that what we do is good, based on the parameters of the One who gave us the work in the first place and not just on feelings.
“I choose to align my work with God’s thoughts concerning me by doing the following…”
It starts with asking for direction on what God wants you to do in the location where He has placed you. You’re not in that organisation just for yourself. There’s an agenda, and to do good work, you must fit into that agenda.
You may not get the full picture at the beginning, but as you start asking the Holy Spirit with the intent to know, every action gets guided in the right direction.
