Do you realise that every day we choose between life-giving actions and death-inducing actions?
God has placed desires in our hearts for us to accomplish, but we don’t get to do them because of the many deals the enemy presents us.
We’ve been deceived into believing that the only way the devil devours is through grand schemes like killing a loved one, causing disease and sickness, and other life-threatening events.
But his most subtle and powerful device yet is distraction. He uses different channels that distract us and steal our time away, causing us to focus on the wrong things instead of what God would have us do.
Distraction can be engineered through amusement. According to the dictionary, to amuse is to:
- divert the attention so as to deceive.
- cause (someone) to pass the time agreeably occupied
John 10:10 says, “The thief does not come except to steal, kill, and destroy. I have that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly.”
Through amusement, the enemy steals our attention from what’s important, kills the ability to think, and destroys destinies by following God’s plan. This is his SKD (Steal Kill Destroy) method, and it has never failed him.
How can we avoid getting distracted from the work we’ve been called to do?
Amuse is the opposite of muse, which means to think. Every creative thinker has a muse—a source of inspiration that gives them new ideas.
Before any significant form of creation, there must first be “thought.” Even in Genesis 1, scripture makes us understand that God brooded over the face of the waters. To brood is to sit quietly and thoughtfully, to meditate. The enemy knows that if every child of God has ample time to meditate, we will create solutions that put him out of business.
So, he harms our exploits from the foundation—our thoughts. This is why we’d rather watch a movie that teaches us nothing than read a book that inspires us or listen to music that lifts us.
Instead, we would scroll through social media, liking posts instead of exploring opportunities to build genuine relationships with those who could cause God’s plan to manifest in our lives.
He even has a “catch them young” scheme: parents who don’t have the time to train their children leave them to watch cartoons that don’t inspire creativity but subtly pass negative habits into them.
To avoid all his tactics, we must rethink how we spend every waking moment of our lives. We need to revisit our sources of inspiration and stay with them.
God wants to give us groundbreaking ideas, but to receive them, we can’t afford to constantly be distracted. The thought stage in every creation process must be completed. If God did it, we can do it too.
God has called us to do big things for His kingdom here. The devil knows this and doesn’t want it to happen. Well, let’s make it happen.

Be intentional about what you give attention to from now on. The devil isn’t as stupid as we like to think. He’s been playing this game since the beginning of time, distracting Eve from what’s truly important.
