“Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” I Corinthians 3:16 NKJV
We’ve been taught that, as the temple of God, sin should be far from us. And when we do this, we become holy and acceptable. This is true. It’s not enough to be materially wealthy and spiritually poor. But what’s the end benefit of being God’s temple?
When you walk into a beautiful house and marvel at its architecture and decor, what makes it that beautiful?
Two things:
- Those who designed and built it
- Those who live inside and maintain it
The house, by itself, can do nothing besides expressing the impact of the two factors above.
God designed and built us, and the Holy Spirit lives in and keeps us. To live right and stay connected, we can only acknowledge the designer and yield to the maintenance of He who resides in us.
The impact is that people look at us as masterpieces and have no choice but to respect the designer’s (God) mind and the resident’s presence (the Holy Spirit).
Ultimately, we give glory to God and spread the gospel by just being a temple.
How can being God’s masterpiece influence our work?
When a house is built and maintained well, it provides premium experiences for visitors. It becomes a benchmark for onlookers and the standard in the industry.
What do you think this means?
The experience you provide through what you do must be unforgettable. This doesn’t have to be through a product. Having simple conversations with people should show that we have been built with intentionality.
When people come to me with a problem that I have been designed to solve, they must only leave with a solution. Nothing else is acceptable.
You’ve been designed to solve a particular problem. There are several beautiful houses, each with unique characteristics. That’s the same thing with us.
What you do should be a benchmark for others trying to replicate. When people try to do something you’ve done before, they should be tempted to ask you questions about how you successfully did it.
In other words, the results are significant. You only become a benchmark when you have results. Without that, you won’t be a reference point.
But there are results, and there are record-breaking ones. These results become standards that people try to beat. It’ll take someone else designed and maintained like you to win your record.
Our effort or power achieves none of these feats. It’s all up to our designer and resident. This is why gratitude and submission are crucial factors for spiritual growth. Without them, we become empty and lose our identity.
“I am God’s masterpiece.”
Do you constantly live in gratitude to God and submission to His Spirit?
This will determine whether we’ll have pruned trees or thick bushes. The more grateful and yielded we are, our work will be more excellent.
