When we’re to make impact on another person through leadership, teaching or work, we tend to only focus on the subject at hand. This could be the project, task or lesson.
If we really want people to go on a journey with us, we have to go beyond the “syllabus”. Talent is only sustained when there are moral qualities backing it up. A talented person with zero determination can’t be a trailblazer.
As you mentor people in a profession, work with clients on a project or teach a vocation, share the moral guidelines needed for that value to grow so that even when they get started with you, they have the intangible qualities needed to apply what they learn from you.
Getting to the Promised Land was a journey, and Moses didn’t waste any time sharing the moral guidelines in Deuteronomy 5.
Their abilities will get them started. But those intangible qualities will sustain them.
