Before my teenage years, I did a personal project which was to make a mug out of clay. And the purpose was simple. I said, “Let me make a cup that I’ll use to drink whatever I want, so that even if I break it, nobody will beat me.”
I think at that point, I must have been frustrated by the number of mugs I had broken and the growing number of good beating that I had received…lol!
What I didn’t know was that to make a mug that did such good work, the process had to be perfect.
Well, after several hours of sculpting, I made the mug. And it looked like shit. It didn’t even last one day in hand because as I tried to use it to drink water, the handle broke off.
I felt like crying, but the tears didn’t come :D.
Now imagine if I perfectly made the mug, but then someone else takes it from me, preventing it from doing the work I made it for, which was to hold my drinks and also prevent me from extra beating, should it break.
I would be frustrated and feel I wasted my time.
I guess when we choose not to do good work, when we choose to let the hustle of the environment define what we do, when we choose to intentionally ignore His voice that we keep hearing so we go after what we want, we frustrate the One who made us for a purpose.
At least, unlike my own project, we were perfectly made. Genesis 1:26 was no joke.
