“As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God.” Psalms 42:1 NLT
As I write this, I am reminded of the times I have grown tired of working; I was spiritually down and out, having a poor connection to the heavens, but yet doing the motions and giving others the perception that all was well.
At those times, I was the only one who knew what I was going through, and it was heartbreaking to realise that I couldn’t find my way back without some help.
In those times, I still worked, fulfilled my responsibilities, and served others while crying inside, longing for something to change how I felt inside.
But God’s mercy always prevailed, helping me get refreshed and recharged. God would orchestrate events that redirect my focus and give me the energy to run to the well that never runs dry, drinking until I overflowed.
This happens to everyone because life has seasons. Some seasons fill us; others leave us almost empty. But the source always stays.
How can this stream of water keep us recharged enough to work?
On an average day, step outside and observe everyone you pass by. Will you recognize those who need to drink from the stream of water and those who are filled?
Definitely not. But guess what? Everyone is working. Everyone is serving. But they do it differently.
In those moments when I felt dry, tired and thirsty, my work sucked. It didn’t change the fact that I was doing what I was called to do. But the fulfilment was different.
During these times, I realized that passion, without a constant connection to the stream of water that never runs dry, leads nowhere.
When you’re constantly recharged, you’re going about the Father’s business, and you can overflow to others, so every day becomes fulfilling.
The difficult projects and setbacks that arise have nothing on you. They don’t shake you because something keeps bubbling inside you like a fountain.
This is how God wants us to do His work, not with bitterness, anger, complaints and slothfulness but with vitality, faith and hope. He gives us the experience of the latter so that whenever we feel down, we remember what it feels like to be recharged, and then we run to Him.

Because we have Christ, we have the living water flowing in our souls. Do you currently feel it? Or are you exhausted from everything around you?
This is an opportunity to remember what it feels like to be refreshed again and love up on God. He’s more than ready to love up on you, too.
