“…but he who does the will of God abides forever.” I John 2:17 NKJV
While writing out my goals, I also wrote a eulogy that should be read out at my funeral. Once done, I read it and realised I hadn’t done much to earn what was written. It sounded like I read another man’s story of accomplishments and impact. In other words, there’s work to be done.
To abide forever is to become immortal. Unfortunately, we have mortal bodies in a time-controlled realm. So only fictional vampires or those who found the fountain of youth can enjoy immortality :). If it’s impossible to live forever, then how else can we achieve immortality?
Today we read stories about the works of people from the past. We watch movies about them and even take lectures on principles that made them who they were. Even though their mortal bodies have passed, their presence on earth has become immortal. The work that they did has made an impact on lives during their lifetime and centuries after.
Of course, I trust that the kind of work going through your mind right now is positive and not harmful. It’s God’s will for us to not just live for ourselves alone but also to live for others through the power of love. It’s love that will make you sacrificial, committed to your cause, affectionate towards those you serve, grow to become who God wants you to be and seek the best interest of your tribe.
It’s this love aligned to God’s will that transcends generations. How will the love you show transcend generations? It’s a big question that you must answer if you desire to make so much impact that your name will not depart from this world in the next century.
Already, we can guess those currently alive who will also become stories that will stay relevant a hundred years from now. Will your story be told as well? I don’t know how my eulogy will become real while I’m still here, but I’ll figure it out one day at a time. Why not write yours to see where you stand so you can start taking the right steps daily?
