“But Ruth replied, ‘Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go. Wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.'” Ruth 1:16 NLT
In September 2018, I remember being filled with doubts as I prepared to conduct training for a group of people. I wondered why anyone would want to take the training, follow me, or trust what I had to teach.
Despite these doubts, I took a leap of faith and launched the programme, eventually drawing in 30 participants. This experience revealed to me the impact of taking action and believing in myself, even amidst uncertainty.
The story of Ruth and Naomi offers an illustration of loyalty and faith. Ruth, in her unwavering commitment, chose to stay by Naomi’s side instead of pursuing her path. Naomi, however, had lost faith in her ability to offer value. She even suggested that Ruth go her own way, underestimating her worth.
But to Naomi’s surprise, Ruth saw qualities in her that she had overlooked—qualities worth following and admiring. So sometimes, underestimating yourself is a deception from the enemy.
How can we apply this positive belief to ourselves, even in our work?
When we approach our work with confidence, it reflects in the quality of our results. But allowing self-doubt and insecurity to influence the creation process will manifest in the outcome.
If you find yourself in a position like Naomi’s, feeling as though all hope is lost and that you have nothing more to offer, know that God may have a surprise in store for you.
After completing the programme in 2018, I was surprised by the positive impact it had on the participants, and this experience boosted my confidence. This serves as a reminder that we all have the potential to create something of value that others will appreciate and desire.
In the book of Ruth, we see how Naomi, despite her initial self-doubt, played an instrumental role in helping Ruth fulfil her destiny. Even in moments of personal turmoil, we can influence others.

During tough times, we must recognise that we can still support and uplift others on their journey. Embracing this perspective allows us to dig out the treasure within the seemingly unfavourable environments we find ourselves in. By doing so, we become invaluable to those we support and encourage.
Changing your perspective will show you that the obstacles in your path are nothing compared to the potential rewards. Like Naomi, believe in yourself and trust that the people who need what you have to offer will find their way to you.
In pouring into others, you’ll find yourself empowered as well, for God’s guidance and presence are constantly directing your path. So, stay steadfast in your faith.
