“Man proposes, God disposes”. As beings limited by time and space, we have a lot of audacity to think we have ultimate control over everything that happens to us. I guess that’s the element of dominance God put in our hearts.
For the past decade, I’ve seen myself come up with tons of ideas, start and abandon projects, and for a time, I would feel so bad thinking I was jinxed. The only thing that comforted me was that I also had projects I saw to the end.
This made me sit, analyse and try to understand why some projects never started, some got abandoned and others got completed. That’s when I understood the story of Moses better.
Moses had a burden to deliver his brethren (the Israelites) from the Egyptians. But for some reason, the time wasn’t right. When he went out and killed the Egyptian, it looked like it was time to launch. After all, the burden was strong, right? Unfortunately, the people he was trying to help called his bluff, and what happened?
He abandoned the project and took off.
But did God abandon that project? No. Instead, Moses started a transformation journey that wasn’t in his plan but God’s plan. When it was time to launch, all God needed to do was visit him so he could finish what he started several years ago.
There are several stories of people who looked like abandoned projects, but God turned things around again several years later.
It came into my heart to write this post because I just noticed that some projects I started and abandoned several years ago are beginning to resurface, but this time, differently.
It’s like I was commissioned for the work, but that didn’t mean it was time to start. I started anyway because of my love for execution and they didn’t work out as planned.
But in the grand scheme of things, those projects weren’t abandoned. God just needed to work on me as a person because I am part of His project.
And this is the same for you. You may have a burden for something that has lasted for years and it looks like you’re never going to explore it.
Just wait. But while you wait, never forget the burden. Allow God to help you become the kind of person that’s able to fulfil that assignment. Only God knows how long this will take, but when you finally start to revisit those old projects and explore those decade-long burdens, you’ll marvel at the intelligence of God, just as I am.
