“He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Matthew 26:39 NKJV
We all have seasons that are difficult in one aspect of our lives. These seasons demand sacrifice so that we can thrive through them.
This sacrifice doesn’t have to be dying on the cross like Christ, but it requires nailing something to the cross. It could be anger, money, fame, self, etc. These sacrifices are difficult to make; sometimes, we just want to avoid them.
Building a new brand has made me come to God like this, asking if I can just throw the cup out the window and never see it again. Sometimes, I want to quit and just live normally. I don’t want to stretch or give people a reason to ridicule me. I just want to stay comfortable and not sacrifice my money and time so much.
But eventually, I align, receiving new strength to move forward. When you see someone living an “easy life,” it’s either they have made sacrifices you don’t know about, or they have refused to make the sacrifices demanded of them.
Jesus could have moved on with life, amassing fame and influence as he preached and healed people. He could have decided to bypass the cross and be the person the people wanted. He would still be someone of reckoning, but his life would have ended differently.
Instead, he leaned into the difficulty against what his flesh wanted. He entered a season that didn’t make sense to even his disciples but launched him to a level no man had ever reached.
Sacrifices are not pleasant, but God has empowered us to make them. It is now up to us to learn to face that difficulty or just do what the flesh wants—stay where we are and follow the advice of those who have done the same.
I pray that you receive the strength to do what seems impossible to others so that you enter into what God has prepared for you.
