“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” Philippians 4:8 NKJV
Endless work without results is frustrating. I’ve had months of working tirelessly with nothing to show for it. You’ve probably experienced that too at some point in your life. Or, perhaps it’s a current experience.
Asides from the skills, connections, capacity or intelligence, one thing is important – your mind.
Your mind is one important tool that if left uncared for, can lead to zero achievements. Many of us don’t care for our minds as much as we choose to care for the work at hand. But the truth is caring for the mind shows that we do care about the work.
Work Starts with Thought
From the moment you rise in the morning, your mental disposition to the work you’re about to do will define how enthusiastic you’ll be.
Your enthusiasm will influence how inspired you’ll be during the day.
Your inspiration will influence the ideas you share.
The ideas shared will lead to the results you achieve.
And results lead to rewards.
It’s your responsibility to find that source of unconditional love for the work you do, so that you do that work right.
How do you find that source? Answer the following:
- What makes you start your day happily and with joy?
- What fills your mind with positive thoughts?
- What rids your mind of bitterness towards others?
- What connects you to the heavenlies for an easy flow of ideas?
- What gives you the mental strength to challenge obstacles in the day?
- What keeps your mind at peace?
- What helps you regulate your emotions when it looks like the enemy has you on his to-do list?
- What helps you work seamlessly with your team regardless of how imperfect you think they are?
For me, starting the day with a cup of tea and personal bible study gives me all of this so I can work better. When I stop being consistent in doing this, I become more irritable and lose fulfilment at work.
Identify your source and plug in daily. You’ll do good work.
