“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.” Hebrews 10:24 NLT
I like to define “good work” as anything positive that improves your life and that of someone else. This could be in a business, paid employment or charitable deed. “Keep up the good work” has been my email signature for about a decade. I saw my mentor use it in emails to me and it resonated so much that I literally “stole” it.
Man is a social being and cannot thrive in isolation. Even introverts like me who prefer to stay alone and in our heads see the immense value in meeting other people.
As you pursue your passion and do it the way God wants it done, it counts as good work for you. But it doesn’t stop there because every new step you take is a motivation for someone else.
You may not have realised this, but your inaction can hinder someone else from taking action. On the other hand, your prompt action can motivate someone else to do the same. Unknown to you, many people watch in silence, taking the same baby steps you take.
Most of the words, actions, sounds and gestures that my baby learned when she started school were from the activities of other babies. She watched them stand, run, talk, babble and wanted to do the same. They motivated her to do her version of good works because they yielded. Eventually, she stepped up and passed the baton, motivating another baby to do the same.
Motivating one another doesn’t just come from words but the action. We respond to things we see and hear. This is why the concept of faith is so strong because it’s not complete until your senses have been engaged. You don’t just hear it but also see it.
Go beyond what you tell others. Let them also see you in action. Keep up the good work yourself and watch them also do the same.
