It’s my dad’s birthday today and I’m super grateful. I count it a privilege to be his son!
You cannot see my dad and I together and not see the resemblance, both in looks and acts. “Like father like son”, they’d say.
Are you the true son of your father?
Son, in this context, refers to both the male and female gender. It’s very easy to look at a child and make statements such as, “like father like son” whenever you see the child exhibit certain characteristics of the father. Sometimes, the child learns from what the father does. Other times, it’s a natural instinct, almost hereditary infact.
Sometimes you’re not allowed to choose which traits you want. Life just dumps them on you. It’s now up to you to unlearn those you don’t want and relearn some new ones.
My dad is an author. Perhaps it’s by divine orchestration or just learned habits, but he brought forth three children who have (co)authored books at some point in their lives. I’m sure you’ve seen scenarios where the children follow similar career paths like their parents.
As Children of God, we also ought to have characteristics of our Father in Heaven, but can people look at you and say you are “just like your father?”
Our backgrounds, society, relationships, experiences and sin have so modified who we are, that it has become difficult to retrace our steps.
That purpose you are looking for up and down has its roots in your identity. Jesus Christ knew this, that’s why He did what He did so we could go back and be just like dad.
Happy birthday to you dad! Oya time for jollof rice.
