Do you know what drives you?
Some of us have good motives for starting that project, getting that job or building that relationship. But for some reason, the drive to be the best and do it with excellence just isn’t there.
That’s not a bad thing. It just means there’s something missing. It’s not like we don’t want to do well, but the motive just isn’t strong enough.
One viable way to take your drive above 100% is to consider the consequences of your actions. I have seen people use the power of loss as a driving force to push harder at their dreams. They see it as a risk they can’t afford to take.
Consider this: what could possibly happen to you and those you want to serve if you do not start that project? Or build your career? Or push hard at whatever it is you want.
This is when you hear answers like, “I won’t be happy”, “my audience won’t get to have better lives”, “I may not reach the peak”, “I won’t look my best”, and more really crazy outcomes I’d rather not write.
After giving such answers, the desire to not experience those consequences adds extra fire to what was present. This is why you’ll see some people have an added zeal to pursue excellence in their work, projects, health, ministry, or relationships more than others. They do not want those consequences to become reality, either in their lives or in the lives of those they serve.
So check it. Is your drive 100%?
