Power Up Your SPIRIT
“This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.”
John 15:12 NLT
I have three questions for you:
- Do you love yourself?
- Do you know how to receive love?
- Do you know how to love others?
When I started doing more self-reflection on my work habits, I realised that the reason it was difficult to show love to others was that I didn’t know how to love myself.
Showing love was also tricky because when I was shown love, I didn’t know how to acknowledge it. And when I did, I felt unworthy.
Negative statements said to me in the past would replay in my mind, reminding me of how unworthy I was of certain friendships. This made me keep relationships at arm’s length.
Then God started showing me how intentional He was about me and the transformation He needed me to go through. It increased my trust and compassion for others, and how vulnerable I could be. It was the greatest expression of God’s love to me.
Can you confidently answer “Yes” to the questions above?
I couldn’t. I still can’t. But I’m learning. That’s the hope I have.
Hack Your BODY
How can you translate God’s love for you into love for others at work?
First, loving others has a ton of benefits.
- You’ll feel more at rest. I know how restful my mind and body were when I trusted my team more. I would brief them and watch as they did exploits.
- You’ll feel happier. Knowing you’re making someone else’s life better tells you you’re doing something good.
- You’ll prepare yourself for the next season. All that God wants from us is to love Him, love ourselves and love others. As you complete each season doing this, you get prepared for the next.
- …and more benefits.
To answer the question, identify how God has shown you love.
Describe it.
Feel it.
Be grateful for it.
You’ll realise that as you go through your workday, you see people through a different lens.
Some acts of love that you do will surprise you. But it’s all part of the transformation.
Grow Your SOUL

Being able to identify the exact activities to do will help you define how to show love to others.
For example, intentionally changing how I responded to “good morning” greetings changed how people saw me.
So, how do you want to show love to that friend, partner or colleague?
Write it down. Do it. God is right behind you.
