“Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed.'” Matthew 25:24 NKJV
We see what we choose to see. Nothing has a meaning aside from what we assign to it. The third servant tried to use the master’s personality as an excuse for not doing what he was supposed to do with the resources given to him. He focused on the wrong aspect, leading to inaction and stopping him from taking the necessary steps.
In contrast, the other two servants chose to focus on working with the resources given to them, multiplying them, and ultimately being rewarded with dominion. The third servant’s limited and shortsighted thinking led him to miss the opportunity to understudy his master and discover how his master got things done. He was fixated on the perceived hardness of the master instead of seeing it as an opportunity for personal growth and understanding.
We all face moments when we look back and wish we had seen situations differently. Hindsight gives us the power to assess our past decisions and make tweaks when necessary. It’s vital to challenge our beliefs and continually seek newer and different ways of doing what we are called to do.
How can we break this power so we can work differently?
To break free from limited thinking, we must embrace a growth mindset that allows us to unlearn old ways and relearn more efficient methods. This mindset opens us to different perspectives and helps us realise that there are better ways of doing things.
Leverage is a powerful tool for breaking the chains of limited thinking. Just as the master empowered his servants with resources, we too can empower others, leveraging time, people, and technology to achieve more with less effort. It’s about shifting from an isolated way of working to becoming a channel of blessing by empowering others to do the same.
“I have a growth mindset.”
Research what it truly means to have a growth mindset and reflect on moments when limited thinking has capped the results you could achieve. Be open to newer, better ways of getting things done, and remember, even the Holy Spirit can reveal untried paths and solutions.
Breaking free from limited thinking is a journey. It’s about continually challenging our perspective, seeking growth, and embracing the better ways that God lays before us.
